Mount Hood National Forest encompasses the entirety of this high-elevation landscape, where the volcanic topography of the Cascade Range dictates the movement of water and travelers. The cluster of Pinhead Buttes, including North Pinhead Butte, West Pinhead Butte, and South Pinhead Butte, forms a prominent upland massif that divides the headwaters of several drainage systems. To the east, the Warm Springs River begins its descent through alpine openings like Warm Springs Meadow, while the western slopes feed the Clackamas River drainage. The Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail winds along the eastern ridgelines, passing through Lemiti Meadow and near Lemiti Butte. This 2020 record illustrates a wilderness dominated by hydrologic features such as Bear Skull Spring and the multiple forks of Lemiti Cr, emphasizing the area's importance as a protected watershed and recreational corridor.
