East Malta Colony sits in the northwest corner of this Phillips County landscape, representing a distinct communal settlement pattern in the northern plains. The terrain is defined by the meandering path of Beaver Creek, which winds extensively through the center of the quadrangle. This watercourse, along with Cottonwood Creek, has carved a complex network of drainage features throughout the prairie, including numerous named coulees like Gilbertson Coulee and Abrahamson Coulee.
