Pintler Lake sits at the heart of this high-elevation landscape within the Beaverhead National Forest, where the boundary between Deer Lodge and Beaverhead counties follows the drainage divides. The topography is defined by the winding course of Pintler Cr, which flows southeast toward its eventual meeting with the Big Hole River at the bottom edge of the sheet. Notable alpine features include Pintler Meadows and McCormick Park, which provide relatively level openings amidst the steep ridgelines of Mudd Creek Ridge. This 2014 survey documents the network of forest access roads, such as Howell Creek Rd and Pintler Creek Rd, which navigate the various gulches and creek beds like York Gulch and Howell Cr. The map illustrates the specialized water management and drainage patterns in a region where several forks, including E Fork Mudd Cr and W Fork Mudd Cr, converge in the northern high country.
