The Fish Creek Range dominates the western portion of this Central Nevada landscape, where the rugged peaks of South Hill and the incisions of Grays Canyon give way to the broad alluvial basins of the Great Basin. This 2021 update documents the transitional geography between the high country and the valley floors, specifically where the slopes of Ratto Canyon and Secret Canyon drain toward the eastern flats.

Settlement is sparse in this high-desert environment, centered on the Rye Patch area. The map illustrates a landscape defined by water management and transit, following the route of Fish Creek Rd as it skirts the Fish Creek Valley. The eastern edge of the quadrangle marks the boundary between Eureka Co and White Pine County, showing the drainage of Fish Cr and its S Fork Fish Cr as they flow toward the Little Smoky Valley.
