Challis National Forest dominates this high-elevation Idaho landscape, centered on the prominent summit of Pinyon Peak. The terrain is defined by a complex drainage network where waters from Blue Lake and Blue Lake Cr flow north, while the southern slopes feed into Loon Cr and Beaver Cr. This 2017 survey documents a wilderness primarily accessible via primitive routes and trails, such as the Loon Creek Road (Winter Trail) and the aptly named Horse Ladder.
