About this map

Wahak Hotrontk and other Tohono O'odham settlements anchor this desert landscape within the Papago Indian Reservation during the early 1960s. The geography is defined by a series of broad, braided drainage systems including San Simon Wash, Hickiwan Wash, and Gu Vo Wash that converge as they flow south toward the border. To the northeast, the jagged peaks of Sierra Blanca rise above the basin floor, providing a sharp contrast to the flat valley floor where scattered wells like Tracys Well and San Antone Well supported isolated communities.
