Pine Center serves as the small hub for this lake-heavy stretch of central Minnesota, situated amidst an intricate network of wetlands and wooded lowlands. The landscape is defined by its glacial hydrology, where the Platte River winds through the southwestern corner, connecting a series of notable basins including Platte Lake and Sullivan Lake. The boundary between Crow Wing and Morrison counties bisects the terrain, roughly following the corridor of Co Hwy 51 and the Old Military Trl. Historical markers of local settlement are preserved in the locations of Holy Family Cem and Lakeview Cem, which overlook Rock Lake and Peavy Lake respectively. This 2019 survey documents a region where modern county roads like Co Rd 129 and Co Rd 132 SE maintain the footprint of much older transit routes through the marshlands.
