Mississippi River floodplains and the high bluffs of the Illinois side dominate this 2024 landscape, where the river serves as the border between Illinois and Missouri. The complex hydrology of the valley is evident through a network of sloughs and cutoffs, including The Sny, Upper Cutoff Slough, and Greenbrier Slough. These water features surround several notable islands like Cash Island and Middleton Island, while the Great River National Wildlife Refuge preserves significant portions of the shoreline habitat.

Upland from the river, the eastern portion of the map transitions into more rugged terrain, marked by Jaeger Knob and numerous family cemeteries like Sapp Cem and Galloway Cem.
