The Salish Mountains and the heavily timbered terrain of the Flathead National Forest define this landscape west of Kalispell. In this 2017 survey, the interior of the quadrangle is largely defined by a dense network of forest service roads, such as Nat Forest Develop Road 538 Rd and Nat Forest Develop Road 5347, which provide access to the drainages of Griffin Cr and Herrig Cr. The presence of Haskill Pass serves as a critical geographic transition point within the mountains. Residential and recreational corridors are concentrated along the water, particularly near the northern shores of Little Bitterroot Lake and the western reaches of Ashley Lake. This map captures the modern balance of industrial timber access and private lakeside development through routes like Pleasant Valley Rd and N Ashley Lake Rd.
