Point aux Barques juts into the northern waters of Lake Michigan along this sparsely settled stretch of Schoolcraft County. The landscape is defined by a series of prominent coastal projections, from Wiggins Point in the north to Pillows Point and Miller Point further south. These points are separated by a network of small, winding waterways including Gierke Cr, Bursaw Cr, and Tebo Cr that drain the interior wetlands toward the lake. A complex of access roads and trails, such as Hardwoods Trail and Adams Trce, navigates the wooded terrain behind the shoreline. This modern survey reflects the quiet, residential and recreational character of the Thompson Township coast, where names like Bourassas Point and the submerged Wiggins Point Shoal mark the interface between the Upper Peninsula land and the Great Lakes.
