Polar Bear Mountain rises as a central landmark in this high-elevation landscape along the border of Oregon and California. The 2012 survey illustrates a topography defined by steep drainage systems feeding into the E Fork Illinois River and its various tributaries, including Black Cr and Dunn Cr. Evidence of remote forest activity and seasonal habitation is visible through the presence of several established outposts such as Porters Camp, Poker Flat, and Bell Echo Camp.
