Golconda sits at the eastern edge of the northern Sonoma Range, serving as a focal point for this high-desert landscape in Humboldt County. The terrain is defined by steep elevation changes, moving from the low-lying Humboldt River and French Canal in the north toward the prominent peaks of the Granite Hills and Kramer Hill. This 2014 survey reveals a transition from the riparian environment of the river valley to the dry, rugged drainages of Polkinghorne Canyon and Devils Canyon.
