Lake Oahe dominates the central landscape of this borderland region where South Dakota and North Dakota meet. The vast reservoir, created by the impoundment of the Missouri River, covers the river's original channel and much of the surrounding low-lying terrain, including the area known as Kenel Flats. Along the eastern uplands, the rural character of Campbell and Emmons Counties is defined by a sparse network of section-line roads such as 101st St SW and Main Ave. Local history is preserved at the Dale Cem near the northern boundary, while aviation interests are represented by the Vander Wal Private Airport. The map also captures the confluence of smaller drainages like Hunkpapa Cr and S Br Cattail Cr, illustrating the complex water systems that feed into the Missouri River valley.
