Porphyry Peak rises as the central landmark within the Challis National Forest of Custer County, Idaho. This high-elevation terrain is defined by the White Knob Mountains, where numerous drainages such as Grant Creek, Rock Creek, and Boone Creek carve through the landscape. The south and west of the quadrangle show the drainage systems feeding into the E Fork Big Lost River, a critical water source for the region.
