About this map

The Port Crescent (Abandoned) site on the shoreline of Freshwater Bay reveals a settlement in transition during the early twentieth century. This northern edge of the Olympic Peninsula is defined by the steep transition from the Strait of Juan de Fuca to the heights of the Olympic Mountains, where the Elwha River Range and Baldy Ridge dominate the interior landscape. The arrival of the Chicago Milwaukee and St Paul railroad and the development of the Olympic Highway reflect an era of expanding industrial access to the region’s timber resources, further evidenced by the presence of a Logging RR near Lauridsen.
