The N Fork Moreau River cuts across the northeastern corner of this western South Dakota landscape, where the boundary between Harding and Butte counties is clearly marked. This area is defined by a dense drainage network of seasonal and permanent watercourses, including Cottonwood Cr and its tributaries, S Cottonwood Cr and South Cottonwood Creek. These waterways, along with Porter Cr and Badlands Cr, suggest a land shaped by erosion and periodic runoff.
