Umpqua Hot Springs and the surrounding wilderness of the Umpqua National Forest define this high-elevation landscape in Douglas County. The terrain is a complex network of volcanic ridges and deep drainages, including the Dread and Terror Ridge and Watson Ridge, which separate the north-flowing tributaries of the North Umpqua River from the Clearwater River to the south. Hydroelectric infrastructure is integrated into the natural hydrology here, evidenced by the Lemolo Number 2 Canal and the Clearwater Number One Forebay.
