The Pyramid Lake Indian Reservation dominates the western shoreline of Pyramid Lake in this mid-1960s survey. The landscape is defined by the sharp vertical transition from the Virginia Mountains down to the water's edge at an elevation of 3,792 feet. Along the coast, distinctive landmarks like Warrior Point and George Washington Rock serve as navigational markers between the sheltered waters of Wizards Cove and Ninemile Bay.

Evidence of human enterprise is sparse but significant, with the Southern Pacific tracks skirting the base of the mountains near the shore. Small pockets of activity are centered at the Big Canyon Ranch and the settlement of Pyramid, while a series of steep drainages such as Jigger Bob Canyon and Thunderbolt Canyon cut through the high ridges. These features, along with various Jeep Trails, trace the limited routes of travel through this high desert terrain before the late-century changes.
