About this map

The Ontario and Minnesota borderlands come into focus here, dominated by the sprawling interconnected waterways of Quetico Provincial Park and the Superior National Forest. This lake-strewn landscape is centered on Hunter Island, a massive landmass bounded by the international boundary waters. The interior remains largely roadless, with transit defined by historical canoe routes through Kawnipi Lake, Sturgeon Lake, and Agnes Lake. Settlement is concentrated along the northern rail corridors where the Canadian National and Canadian Pacific lines cross the shield country.
