This rural area, centered on the small settlement of Rader, is defined by a dense network of country schools and churches that served the isolated valley communities. Many of these institutions, such as McMahan Sch and Amity Sch, reflect the local social structure before widespread district consolidation.

The rugged Ozark topography is marked by deep hollows like Pender Hollow and Rocky Hollow, which dictated the placement of early homesteads and roads. By the time of this survey, several landmarks were already noted as no longer in use, including Pleasant Ridge Sch (Abandoned) and Oak Grove Sch (Abandoned). Notable features for researchers include the Smittle Cave and the Little Vine Ch, alongside numerous small family burial grounds labeled simply as Cem.
