Whirlwind Valley and the central uplift of the Red Knolls dominate this 1970s landscape, characterized by a complex network of ephemeral drainage systems and livestock-management infrastructure. The topography is defined by the erosion-carved ridges of Long Ridge and Soap Hollow, which channel seasonal runoff into essential water catchments. These catchments, including Swasey Reservoir No 4, Soap Wash Reservoir, and Highway Reservoir, provided the vital water supply necessary for ranching operations in this arid portion of Millard County.
