Red Desert Basin dominates this portion of the Wyoming high desert, a region defined by internal drainage and shifting sands. The northern reaches of the map center on the seasonal waters of Red Lake and the adjacent Alkali Flat, where mineral deposits mark the landscape of the Great Divide Basin. To the west, Mud Lake provides a localized focus for what little surface moisture accumulates in this arid environment.
