About this map

Red Lodge sits at the edge of the Beartooth foothills, where the high mountain terrain of the Custer National Forest meets the developed valley floor. This 1980s landscape shows a community oriented around both its natural geography and seasonal recreation, featuring a Golf Course, a Campground, and a Rodeo Ground on the outskirts of town. The transition from the rugged Limestone Palisades and Grizzly Peak down to the West Bench plateau illustrates the dramatic topography that has long influenced settlement in this part of Carbon County. Water management and infrastructure are evident through the network of ditches, the Filtration Plant, and the prominent flow of the West Fork Rock Creek and Rock Creek. Local transport and industry are marked by the Airport, various Ski Lift lines on the slopes, and a Gravel Pit near the creek banks.
