Concentrated near the valley floor, a network of family-held properties including Bingham Ranch, Spear Ranch, and Cascabel Ranch line the river banks. The small community of Cascabel is anchored by the Cascabel School, while the northern settlement of Redington sits at the base of the rising terrain.

Elevations climb sharply into the Galiuro Mountains to the east, where the Coronado National Forest boundary protects a landscape of deep drainages like Redfield Canyon and Sycamore Canyon. Evidence of early prospectors is found at the Jackson Mine and several Prospects scattered through the hills. This 1957 revision reveals a network of Jeep Trails providing the only access into the high backcountry of Sierra Blanca and the Winchester Mountains, marking a period of transition as traditional ranching and remote mining operations remained the dominant human imprint.
