About this map

The settlement of Rex and the community of Low Gap anchor this mid-1960s study of the Arkansas highlands. The terrain is defined by the winding course of the South Fork and the Little Red River, which carve through deep hollows like Sis Hollow and Dry Land Hollow. These waterways dictated the layout of early mountain roads and property lines, which are noted here with fine red dashed lines indicating field and fence boundaries visible during the 1960 aerial survey.
