The Union Canal (Abnd) and the Conrail rail line trace the historical corridor of trade through this portion of Lebanon County, where the Tulpehocken valley meets the rising slopes of the White Oak Hills and Furnace Hills. The agricultural landscape is punctuated by dense clusters of German-influenced settlements such as Myerstown, Richland, and Schaefferstown. Local religious and educational heritage is evident in the numerous country schoolhouses and churches, including the Theology School of and Heidelberg Ch.

South of the main settlements, the terrain becomes more industrial and resource-focused, with Mine Tailings near Avon Heights and the Lebanon Res tucked into the southern ridges. The presence of both the Buffalo Springs Airfield and the Lebanon Valley Airpark highlights the area's mid-century aviation utility, while the Horse Shoe Trail marks the beginnings of recreational preservation along the forested Black Oak Ridge.
