About this map

Sugar cane cultivation and coastal transport dominate the landscape of western Puerto Rico in this late 1930s survey. The American Railroad of Puerto Rico tracks follow the shoreline from Pta Gorda south past Rincón, connecting a network of industrial hubs including Central Coloso and Central Igualdad. These mills are supported by numerous agricultural colonies, such as Colonia Libertad and Colonia Enriqueta, which are clustered in the fertile lowlands near the Rio Grande de Añasco.
