Wengler and the small settlement of The Cove anchor this portion of the Shasta National Forest, where steep drainages feed into the larger river systems. The landscape is defined by the winding course of Roaring Creek and its many tributaries, including Little Roaring Creek, Butter Creek, and Richardson Creek. Local history is centered on the Cove Cem and the small residential pockets that persist along Big Bend Rd and Roaring Ridge Rd. In the north, the Pit River cuts through the terrain near Bush Bar, while the southern reaches are marked by Hogback Mountain and the cascading waters of Hatchet Creek Falls. The infrastructure of the PG&E Right-of-Way cuts across the central ridges, reflecting the region's role in utility corridors.
