1981 Map of Rock Port

USGS Topo · Published 1982

About this map

The Missouri bluffs overlooking the Missouri River valley define this landscape, where the Brickyard Hill State Wildlife Area covers the wooded uplands. In the early 1980s, the community of Rock Port serves as the county seat, situated along the banks of Rock Creek. To the west, the valley floor is dominated by agricultural drainage and infrastructure, including the Burlington Northern railroad corridor passing through Watson and Phelps City. Local family history is well-preserved through numerous small burial grounds such as Addington Cem, Millsap Cem, and the larger Elmwood Cem near the town center. The map also captures the local recreation and utility footprint, from Charity Lake and Nishnabotna Lake to the Rock Port Municipal Airfield and various waste and filtration facilities that supported the region's late-20th-century growth.
