The Cimarron River winds through the southwestern corner of Kansas, defining a landscape largely encompassed by the Cimarron National Grassland. This 2018 survey reveals the persistent historical layers of Morton County, most notably the path of the Santa Fe Nat Hist and the Santa Fe Nht-North Rte. These routes, along with the Companion trail, trace the legacy of 19th-century westward migration across the high plains.
