Rose Lake and its surrounding wetlands form a distinct geographical focus in this part of Kootenai County, situated just north of the winding Coeur d'Alene River. The settlement of Rose Lake is perched near the water, supported by the Rose Lake Access Area and the nearby Rose Lake Cemetery. To the east, the landscape transitions into the dramatic terrain of Fourth of July Canyon, a pass that has long served as a corridor for travel through the panhandle.
