Rose Lake and the Coeur d'Alene River valley form the geographic center of this Idaho panhandle study, illustrating the connection between the water and the small settlements of Dudley and Mission Flats. The landscape transitions from the river flats and Na'nstq'e'lkhwn Flat toward the high points of Wall Peak and Dudley Peak. Much of the area is occupied by the Coeur d'Alene National Forest, where steep drainages like Fourth of July Canyon and Hardy Gulch cut through the timbered terrain. Local history and genealogy are preserved at the Rose Lake Cem and the Rose Lake Access Area, marking the community's enduring ties to the lake. The map also traces various creek systems, including Bull Run Cr and Latour Creek, which flow through the lower elevations near Porters Lake.
