Saginaw Bay defines the northern edge of this coastal Huron County landscape, where the sandy shoreline of the Thumb transition into a complex network of wetlands and drainage basins. The area is dominated by the sprawling Rush Lake and the recreational lands of Albert E Sleeper State Park - Deer Run Trl. These marshes are drained by an intricate system of natural and man-made waterways, including the Pigeon River, Pinnebog River, and numerous local drains like the Rush Lake Drain and Fisher Drain.
