Red River Hot Springs serves as a primary point of interest in this 2017 survey of the Nez Perce National Forest. The landscape is defined by the steep drainage systems feeding into the Red River, including Meadow Creek and Shissler Cr. High-elevation landmarks such as Sable Hill and Simmons Ridge dictate the flow of the numerous forks of Sable Cr, while Tamarack Saddle provides a natural pass between the peaks. The network of access is limited, primarily represented by Hot Springs Rd leading toward the springs. This map provides a detailed view of the complex topography and drainage basins of Idaho County's backcountry, where family-named features like Matteson Ridge reflect the area's local history and land-use patterns within the national forest boundaries.
