The high-altitude scientific hub of Sunspot anchors this study of the Sacramento Mountains within the Lincoln National Forest. Situated at the terminus of the Sunspot Scenic Byway, this area represents a significant concentration of astronomical research infrastructure, including the Solar Observatory, the Cosmic Ray Observatory, and Telescope Domes. The remote, elevated terrain is further utilized for the Apache Point Observatory and a Heliport near the Sunspot Visitor Center.
