Lake Saint Helen serves as the dominant geographical feature of this Roscommon County landscape, with its distinctive shoreline marked by Birch Point, Norway Point, and Long Point. The settlement of St. Helen occupies the northeastern shore, supported by the St Helen Airport and a grid of residential streets near Fairview Cem. To the west, the community of Artesia Beach lines the waterfront, transitioning into the more rural character of Maple Valley further south.

The southern portion of the quadrangle is defined by its recreation and forestry heritage, most notably the Midland to Mackinaw Boy Scout Trail which winds through the terrain. A network of smaller water bodies including Ninemile Lake, Indian Lake, and Spring Lake are connected by seasonal roads and trails. This area shows a typical Northern Michigan pattern of concentrated lakeside development contrasting with the expansive wooded tracts of the surrounding townships.
