The Saint Joe Wild and Scenic River carves a deep valley through the St. Joe Mountains, defining the central character of this northern Idaho landscape. Near the settlement of Omega, the river is flanked by the Railroad Grade Rd and St Joe River Rd, marking a vital transportation corridor through the high country. To the north, the terrain ascends sharply toward the Saint Joe Divide and the prominent peak of Saint Joe Baldy, which rises over five thousand feet.
