About this map

The Rio Grande forms a prominent international boundary between Mexico and the United States in this 1965 survey of the South Texas borderlands. The landscape is defined by the sharp transition from the riverbanks and the nearby settlement of Salineño to the high, arroyo-cut brushlands of Starr County. To the north, the waters of Falcon Reservoir reach into the terrain, bordered by the protected lands of Falcon State Park. This mid-century view shows a sparse but established network of gravel extraction and early energy development, with several Gravel Pits and a Gas Well scattered across the undulating elevations.
