Saltpeter Mountain rises above a landscape defined by deeply incised drainage systems in this modern topographic record of Colfax County. The terrain is characterized by a complex network of canyons, including Ashenfelder Canyon, Beardon Canyon, and the sprawling Saltpeter Canyon to the southwest. Water resources are primarily represented by the seasonal flows of Saltpeter Cr and Curtis Cr, which eventually lead toward the small reservoir of Twin Lakes at the southern edge of the quadrangle.
