The Sam Houston National Forest dominates this section of the Piney Woods, where the borders of Walker and Montgomery counties meet along the upper reaches of Lake Conroe. The terrain is defined by a dense network of tributaries including W Sandy Cr, Caney Cr, and Antony Br, all feeding into the W Fork San Jacinto River. This landscape remains largely undeveloped, preserved for timber and recreation, yet traces of early settlement persist in the small family and community burial grounds scattered throughout the woods. Genealogists can identify the locations of Lee Cem, Farris Cem, and Union Grove Cem, while the northern portion of the map is punctuated by the landmark Blue Bonnet Hill. The road network, including FM 1375 and FM 149, provides access through the forest to the shoreline of the lake and the historic community of San Jacinto.
