The Black Pine Mountains dominate this high-elevation landscape within the Sawtooth National Forest. This remote section of Cassia County is defined by a series of steep drainages, including Sandrock Canyon and North Fork Sandrock Canyon to the west, and the expansive Eightmile Canyon and Fisher Canyon to the south. The rugged topography is punctuated by numerous named water sources essential for high-desert survival, such as Fisher Spring, Mortenson Spring, and Boosinger Spring. A sparse network of unpaved tracks, including Windmill Rd and Eight Mile Rd, provides the only access through these canyons. The map preserves the names of small landmarks like Hutchey Spring and Point Spring, which likely served as critical watering points for local livestock and wildlife in this arid environment.
