The McKinney Mountains and the southern edge of the Monitor Range define the high-desert character of this 2014 Nye County survey. The landscape is structured by deep drainages such as Kellys Mine Canyon and Quaking Aspen Canyon, which feed into the broad alluvial floor of the Saulsbury Basin. This area within the Toiyabe National Forest was historically vital for its scattered water sources in an otherwise arid environment. Points like Secret Spring, Salisbury Spring, and Warm Spring provided essential hydration for cattle ranching and early prospecting efforts. The topography is punctuated by prominent landmarks such as Rocky Peak and the distinctive Castle Rock, while the ephemeral Saulsbury Wash carves a path through the basin toward Fourmile Basin in the southeast.
