Ashford marks the northwestern gateway to this high-elevation landscape, where the Nisqually River carves the border between Pierce Co and Lewis County. The terrain is defined by the steep relief of Sawtooth Ridge and Osborne Mtn, creating a complex of glacial basins that harbor several high-mountain water bodies. These include Bertha May Lake, Granite Lake, and Cora Lake, which are tucked into the drainages of Big Cr and Mesatchee Cr.
