Evidence of the region's long-established communities is found in the scattered burial grounds, including Middletown Cem and Burgess Cem. To the east, the Williams River flows past Bartonsville and Brockways Mills, illustrating the industrial and transport corridors that follow the narrow river valleys. Extensive public lands, such as the John J Dorano State Forest and Grafton State Forest, highlight the preserved woodland character of this section of Vermont during the late twentieth century.
