Scotchman Peak and the surrounding heights of the Cabinet Mountains dominate this high-elevation terrain near the Idaho-Montana border. The landscape is defined by its drainage systems, where Lightning Creek and East Fork Creek carve through the western slopes while Blue Creek and Wiggletail Creek flow toward the south. A network of Forest Service access roads, including NFD 2295 RD, provides entry into the backcountry, where prominent summits like Goat Mountain, Sugarloaf Mountain, and Blacktop Mountain create a formidable topography. The presence of Little Spar Lake tucked beneath the ridge of Savage Mountain highlights the alpine character of the region. This 2011 survey serves as a modern record of the wild land and forest management infrastructure before more recent shifts in wilderness designation or road access changes occurred.
