The North Fork Clearwater River winds through the northwestern corner of this territory, where the sharp descent of Black Canyon meets the steep drainage of Kelly Creek. This landscape is defined by its verticality, rising from river level to the prominent heights of Scurvy Mtn and the sprawling Moose Mountains to the north. In the southeastern portion, Pony Flats represents a rare break in the topography near the headwaters of Pony Creek.
