The Warm Springs Indian Reservation dominates this 1960s landscape, where the high desert plateaus are dissected by deep drainage systems. The convergence of Tenino Creek and Seekseequa Creek defines the local topography, with prominent flatlands such as Tenino Bench and Agency Metolius Bench providing distinct geographic levels above the canyon floors. At the small hub of Seekseequa Junction, a remote network of unpaved ways and the Jackson Trail meet, serving the scattered springs and landmarks like Coyote Butte.

To the southeast, the newly formed Lake Simtustus fills the canyon of the Deschutes River, reaching a normal pool elevation of 1580 feet. This artificial water body significantly altered the local environment, introducing Campgrounds to a landscape previously characterized by seasonal flows like Dry Hollow and isolated water sources like Pipp Spring and Daisy Spring. Small Cem notations near the junction point to the long-standing human presence on these tribal lands.
