Christianson Reservoir and the rolling drainage basins of eastern McCone County define this 2014 survey. The landscape is shaped by the winding course of Shade Cr and its southern tributary, S Fork Shade Cr, which carve through the dry terrain of the Montana high plains. These intermittent waterways and the small impoundment at the reservoir represent the critical water management required for ranching in this part of the Big Dry country.
