Shafter is the central settlement in this high-desert region of West Texas, positioned along the banks of Cibolo Cr. The landscape is dominated by the steep slopes of the Chinati Mountains to the west and the prominent peak of Cerro Tren to the southeast. This 2016 survey illustrates a rugged terrain defined by complex drainage systems such as Wilson Arroyo, Arroyo Tinaja Escondido, and Morita Cr, which carve through the arid basin.
