The small unincorporated community of Sheridan occupies the rolling agricultural lands of northern Poweshiek County, just south of the boundary with Tama County. This 2015 survey reveals a classic rural Iowa landscape defined by a rectilinear grid of section-line roads, including 320th Ave and 340th Ave. Significant local landmarks for genealogists include the Sheridan Cem and the Trinity Cem, located further south near 360th Ave. The terrain is shaped by a branching network of waterways, most notably Walnut Cr and its northern tributary N Walnut Cr, which carve gentle valleys through the farmland. In the southern portion of the quadrangle, Big Bear Cr runs west-to-east, accompanied by local travel routes such as Newburg Rd and Co Hwy T58.
